Chapter 9 - Deep Cover

"Hey, you know how you told me that if you ever needed us again, you'd call us?" Heero asked Hikki.
"Yeah," he responded.
"Well, I was wondering if we could join up with you guys," Heero said, hoping that Hikki would agree. Hikki thought about it for a minute before agreeing.
"Zure, why not," Hikki said happily as he shook both Heero and Riza's hands. "Welcome to ze Syndeecate."

"Hey Hikki, we're gonna go head out somewhere for a quick bit, okay?" Heero asked Hikki a few minutes later.
"Zure," he responded as he went back to celebrate a victory.

"Priestess, someone is here to see you," a young clergywoman said.
"Who are they?" the priestess inquired.
"A couple of out-of-towners," the clergywoman said.
"I see. Very well," she said as she put her robe on and proceeded to the main hall.

Once in a while, Heero and Riza would stop by a church to confess their sins--mostly for being freelance snipers and killing everyone. They had found out about St. Maria's Cathedral, which was down the street, through one of the locals.
As the two stepped into St. Maria's Cathedral, a priestess appeared at the center of the church.
"Welcome to St. Maria's Cathedral, my children," Priestess Nafah said. "What service may I provide you with today?"
"We came here to confess our sins," Heero said.
"Oh dear me, come quickly my children," she said as she escorted them to the front of the church to talk about their sins.

Meanwhile, back at the pub, all was well, except for one minor detail...
Everyone that was there was there, but one person stood out--another foreigner who came by for a drink. But, unlike Heero and Riza, he had another agenda.
He was observing everyone who was celebrating their victory in battle. He was taking mental notes while pretending to be a normal passerby. Once he was done with his drink, he walked outside away from the pub and the cathedral to the nearest phone. He then immediately dialed a secure line.
"Hello, ma'am? I think we may have a lead on the Syndicate that attacked just recently."
"Tell me everything you know."
"All I know is that this is them, and I have their exact location."
"Are you sure? I don't want to be wasting resources on a wild witch hunt."
"I am positive, ma'am."
"I want you to head south. A team will be waiting for you there. You may do whatever you please once you meet up with them, but if you're going to give me this much of a leave, then I want them TAKEN OUT NOW!!! And don't let me down, Creme."
"Yes ma'am."
And with that, he hung up and exited town to meet up with the team.
**********
"You are forgiven of your sins," Nafah said.
"Thank you priestess," the two responded.
"Now go in peace, my children," she said as both Heero and Riza left.
After they had left, Nafah sat down and thought to herself, "Syndicate? Fighting against Ozzal?" And with that, she went to her quarters to think.

Twenty clicks outside of town, Creme caught up with a team of twenty soldiers waiting for him to give his first command. But first, one of the soldiers gave Creme the gear he needed to make this raid. He then set up the plan.
"We have an unknown number of hostiles inside this building, heavily armed," he said, pointing to a map. "You ten, take the back door. You nine will come with me, and we will storm the front. Leave no survivors, but do not kill the Frenchie," he continued as he gave a rough description of Hikki. "If you kill him, then this raid will have failed. Understood?"
"Yes sir!"
"Then let's head out."
**********
Heero and Riza had come back from the cathedral to continue the celebration. As they were going upstairs to do their own "celebration," Riza noticed a truck in the distance that was speeding into town. As Heero pulled out the binoculars, he noticed that they were wearing military uniforms--ones that resembled Actonia's.
The two immediately rushed downstairs.
"HIKKI, WE GOT COMPANY!!!" Heero yelled.
"What eez eet?" Hikki asked.
"HIKKI, WE GOT COMPANY!!!!!!" Heero yelled again.
"Oh snapz!" Hikki yelled out loud as he scrambled. "What do you know?"
"We don't know, but they're in a truck coming pretty quickly," Heero said as Riza gathered arms for the members. "Unknown at the time."
Trunks armed himself with a Winchester Model 1897 shotgun with which to defend himself behind the bar.
"Samson, take the sniper rifle and head over to the next building. Once they get here, lay it down on them," Heero said, giving him the Kar98k. "I trust you with it." Samson nodded, took the rifle case, and took off for the building across the street, taking position on the other side before he could be seen.
"All of you, upstairs! We'll take care of them," Heero said as he threw Hikki an MP40. "If we don't make it, you know what to do."
All of the members ran upstairs as Heero and Riza took positions downstairs. Trunks was already covered.
"Hey, are you sure you can do this?" Trunks asked.
"Don't worry, we've done this before," the two said in unison. Trunks shook his head in disbelief as he cocked the shotgun.
"Crazy sons of bitches," he said to himself.

As the team arrived, they were met by Samson's sniper fire. Immediately, two soldiers, including the driver, were shot as they got off the truck. Instead of going after the sniper on the other side of the street, they continued with their plan. They used the truck as cover for the initial entry, but there was no cover for the soldiers going through the back. That gave Samson a chance to pick off three more as they ran down the side of the building to the back door. Once Samson ran out of bullets (Heero only gave him five so that he wouldn't attract attention), Samson pulled out his sidearm and hid downstairs.
As Creme and the remaining soldiers entered through the front, Creme through in two frag grenades to clear the place. A loud boom could be heard across town as the soldiers attempted to clear the building.
Nafah stepped outside to see a plume of smoke coming from the pub. She immediately ran back inside and hid herself and the others from any potential harm.
The soldiers entered from both the front and the back. Heero and Trunks were behind the bar, while Riza was hiding behind the DDR machine with the door to the back room in sight. All of them were waiting until they came in the line of fire.
"Hey hun, you want to show them why they call us Four Hands?" Heero asked.
"Why not?" Riza responded.
"Say what?" Trunks said. "You're shitting me, right? Fuck!!!"
The two sprung from their hiding spots, both armed with dual Colt M1911 pistols. The shootout commenced, and the battle was fierce. The three took cover constantly and shot at the soldiers, while the raiding soldiers were left out in no-man's land for the picking.
Hikki clenched on to the MP40 and aimed at the door as the battle raged on.
Soon, the soldiers in the back barged in, and Riza focused on them. Trunks was focused on the men in front, and Heero was dealing with everyone.
Creme, meanwhile, leaned in to see when he would enter, keeping his presence a secret. If they couldn't take them down, then he would have to himself, he thought to himself.
Before long, all the raiding soldiers had been taken down, except for Creme.
As the gunfire stopped, Creme, who was wearing a long trenchcoat to conceal his two pistols on his waist, walked in like nothing had happened. The three walked out of their hiding spots, still with guns drawn.
"Don't worry, I'm unarmed. I'm just checking to see what the hell was going on," Creme said casually. But the three didn't buy into his bluff and continued to aim at him.
Once the three walked within striking distance of Creme, he pulled two pistols against Heero and Riza. In response, Heero, Riza, and Trunks aimed their guns at him.
"Damnit, I thought this would have worked," Creme said out loud. "My ass is so hers if I don't get his back to her."
"Well think again, bitch," Trunks said as he cocked his shotgun again. "And by the way, thanks for destroying my fucking life! Yeah, sure, I'd had fires in here before, but not like this! You and your grenades, and all these bullet holes! I mean, you fucked up my DDR machine! That was a rarity to get here, you know? Not to mention all the high scores!"
"Now tell me where the Frenchie is, and we all leave here alive," Creme demanded, ignoring Trunks' DDR rant.
"I don't know of any Frenchie," Heero said.
"Oh, I know you do," Creme said as he continued to aim his gun into Heero's temple.
"Oh no we don't," Riza said, keeping her gun pointed towards Creme. "Either you leave, or one of us dies."
"Fine, have it your way," Creme smirked as he stood there.
For a minute, they all stood there, guns drawn. A classic Mexican standoff, where no one can win. A game of chicken, but with loaded guns and no way out.
Thinking that the firefight was over, Hikki crept out of the room to peer downstairs. Once he saw the four standing and drawn, he quickly put himself away from view.
Heero was the first to act, as he dove backwards onto the floor, attempting to take out Creme. Creme shot at Heero with both his guns (pulling one away from Riza), putting one in his chest, shoulder, and leg, but not before getting blasted by the three. His bloody body flew out the door and into the wooden sidewalk just outside the pub.
Heero was badly injured in that exchange and was in need of immediate medical attention.
Hikki looked again and saw Heero bleeding on the floor. He waved to the others and said that Heero was badly hurt.
Riza rushed to his side, holding him by her side, as the rest of them went to go get medical attention.
"Hun, please don't die on me now," she said as she started to cry.
"Don't worry baby, he didn't hit any vital spots..." Heero trailed off. "I'll be fine, just take care of me baby..."
As he collapsed into a short coma, Riza continued to hold him, crying out tears of sadness and anger.

Meanwhile, back at the cathedral, Nafah was praying for the health and safety of those in that building. What she didn't know was that she needed to pray for a miracle for Heero's survival...
"Hey, you know how you told me that if you ever needed us again, you'd call us?" Heero asked Hikki.
"Yeah," he responded.
