Darkness Without Light
By yupat
Its just that, my dreams are more than just a figment of my desire; They manifest themselves when i least want them to.
So you're my apprentice aren't you ?
Yes, replied Jay eagerly
~sigh~
Okay kid lets get things straight now, you less chipper, and never every be that happy near me again.
Jay responded in a low tone, “So what's your problem with being happy?”
In a snide tone i replied, “Happiness, True happiness comes through hard work, Which is something you've yet to do.”
Jay snapped, “Get off your high horse! Just because you've been here longer you expect me to take everything you say as truth.”
I grinned and finally laughed. “Thats the attitude you need to find out the truth. You'll fit in just fine.”
Jay shrugged in confusion. “You were testing me weren't you ?”
I turned slowly to Jay and said, “You already know the truth of the situation. You're instincts are keen far above my own when i was in your position. Just remember that instinct cannot replace experience.”
So, Jay...Are you ready for our first assignment, i asked
“Do i have a choice in the matter” Jay responded
“You always have a choice, even when things seem darkest.” I replied
Well now, the boss sure has a sick sense of training.
Jay looked quizzically. “What do you mean by that ?”
I mean grab some gear, keep your head level and a low profile if you want to survive.
Hours later Jay and I met with our source for this scoop.
“So you two are the reporters i've heard so much about ?” asked the Source guy.
“We are !” said Jay enthusiastically.
I quickly reached over and pulled jay aside.
“What did i tell you about enthusiasm ?”
“Oh right boss, im supposed to be level headed and not show interest” said Jay
“Then what the hell do you call that !” I snapped.
“Boss, for someone concerned about being level headed you tend to blow your cool a lot.” Jay responded.
“Jay does something seem odd about this meeting location to you ?” i asked
“You mean aside from the fact that we are sitting in a rundown bar.” Jay said
“That's only part of it, we are surrounded by suits; Whatever you do, don't fight back.” I said
“Alright you win!” i exclaimed.
Just as i said that the room was filled with gas.
I was floating in and out of consciousness...
During that time i remember seeing Jay standing over me, beside him was Kay El.
“Mr. Reporter, It is at this time that we must relieve you of your apprentice.” said Kay El.
Jay looked confused. “Wait why am i so important ?”
Kay El looked at him and replied “because just as he is truth, you will become lies.”
Kay El let out a sinister laugh. Just then i fell unconscious.
When i awoke some 12 hours later, i pulled out my tape recorder to see what i had missed.
But Kay El was one step ahead of me, he had replaced my tape with another one.
The recording was as follows:
Mr. Reporter, your apprentice is now one of us. Whenever you try to expose the truth he will blanket them. Should he fail ... well, he wont fail, after all you trained him to be like you.
“Dammit !!!” I shouted as i punched the ground.
“Why did they have to take Jay instead of me ?”
“He's not ready to face that sorta darkness!”
